  • The segment parodies TV's The Smurfs and the film Se7en.
  • The name of the segment is a reference to the short lived reality crime show, Murder in Small Town X.
  • Papa Smurf dancing with Smurfette's corpse is a reference to the Tom Petty video for "Mary Jane's Last Dance".
  • Brainy's confusion over Gargamel's motivation for hunting the Smurfs, refers to Gargamel's two conflicting reasons for hunting the Smurfs. Originally Gargamel's motive was he planned to turn the Smurfs into gold, however later on his motive was changed into wanting to eat the Smurfs, which ironically is the same goal as his cat Azrael.

Trivia / Info:

  • Danny Goldman, who originally voiced Brainy in The Smurfs, is a successful casting director who helped Seth Green get a lot of work in his early career.
  • Just like John Doe from "Se7en" Jokey Smurf was never seen commiting the murders.
  • There was a uncut version of the sketch on the first season DVD. The scene involves Brainy asking if Johan and Peewit knew anything about the murders but it's revealed that they were busy killing Snorks with tennis rackets while the murders took place. It's unknown who voiced Johan in that deleted scene. Also, a gag is added when Brainy announces Baker Smurf's murder; when he first says "smurfed" in place of "murdered", the other Smurfs look at each other in shock until Brainy clarifies.
  • This sketch was also known as "The 7murfs".

Goofs / Nitpicks:

  • The Smurfs aren't as big compared to humans as they're portrayed in the sketch.
  • When Papa Smurf says "(bleep) smurfing (bleep)" for a split frame, a white stick is seen.
