James William Van Der Beek, Jr. (born March 8, 1977 in Cheshire, Connecticut) is an American film actor. His most notable role was as Dawson Leery on the popular TV show Dawson's Creek. He also starred in the movies Varsity Blues, and The Rules of Attraction.
