- This is based on the Christmas Truce, a temporary ceasefire that occurred on the Western Front in 1914 during World War I. At this point in the war, British and German troops had little animosity toward one another and expected a political resolution in short order, so there was little motivation to try to push out of their entrenched positions. It was common for the men to trade in No Man's Land and to warn one another when officers were approaching so they could make a show of fighting. It wasn't until the following year that poison gas was first deployed and the fighting got truly nasty.
Goofs / Nitpicks:
- The allied soldiers are portrayed as American, when in actual fact it was British soldiers who had the truce with the Germans. However, it is likely the soldiers are meant to be British.
- This is set in 1914, and the Americans did not get involved with the war until 1917. However, as stated above, it's likely the soldiers are meant to be British.
